Well I wouldn't go so far as to say,"addict". I mean, I could quit anytime I wanted to. Mostly.
Well maybe I could just taper off a little at first...

First one was my father's 1960's Colt Government model in 45ACP on which I learned to shoot pistols. I purchased my first 1911 from Springfield Armory around 1987 when I purchased their 1911 "kit" plus a frame that I put together at home and then a year later I purchased a Colt Government model in 45ACP. In all I've had over 30 different 1911/1911A1 style pistols in 9mm, 38 Super, 9x23mm and 10mm ranging from Kimber Ultra Carry to AMT long-slide size but most were 45 ACP in 5" Government model size. Most of mine were commercial pistols from Springfield, Norinco, Colt and Kimber but I also had few custom pistols from Rock River, Ed Brown and Wilson. I started carrying one in 1989 and continued on and off until 2007. I've used them to compete in IDPA,IPSC, bowling pin, bullseye and even in few metallic silhouette matches with them. For few years I was shooting 250-300 rounds of 45ACP every week through one of my 1911/1911A1 style pistols. I was loading 45ACP round by thousands on my Dillon press and ordering components by tens of thousands from John's Precision Casting in Titusville. I still have few hundred pounds of John's 200gr SWC cast bullets in my garage. These days I'm down to 8 or 9 different ones from Kimber, Colt and parts gun in 9mm and 45ACP plus a pair of their cousin...Browning Hi-Power. I don't shoot them much now so they sit in the safe waiting for my son to grow up and "discover" the 1911 pistol.
Yes, I guess you can say I was a 1911 addict ;)
Yes Rug you make me look like a amateur lol

1911/1911A1 pistols are one of those designs that people either love or hate them with little middle ground...sorta like Glocks.
I know few people with safe full of 1911/1911A1 pistols and little of anything else...but then there are many people with not one in their safe. I just happen to like them a lot and they fit my hand like no other pistol and point very naturally. Unlike most modern pistols, they do require maintenance and parts to keep running reliably in the long term but if you know what you are doing and use good magazine and ammo they are amazingly reliable and accurate.

I was introduced to the 1911 while serving in the U.S. Navy in the mid 70's. That rattle trap was the first handgun I had shot, having had rifles and shotguns in my youth. Qualifying and carrying a 1911 while on duty made a distinct and reassuring impression on me.

Although the first handgun I owned was a Glock 19, I soon moved my desire to getting a 1911 and bought a Springfield 5" SS Mil Spec. Followed by a Springfield LW Champion and a Dan Wesson CBOB.

When I decided to consolidate calibers, I sold the Glock and the Mil Spec. I kept the Champion and CBOB and added a Springfield Tactical XD in .45ACP. Along with a number of pre-lock .38/.357 S&W revolvers I feel I have what I need.

I often think about a premium 5" 1911 purchase but I don't shoot the ones I HAVE enough. Besides what with the new 9mm offerings, I'd probably open up a whole new can of worms.
