Does anyone know anything about the ATI or Armscor/RIA GI model 1911s? I want to get a cheap GI model for my 70 year old father to plink with (rather, he likes the GI model cause his father carried one) and I can't find much information on these besides that they won't explode in your hand. I don't need anything fancy for him, because I know he's probably just going to shoot it maybe twice a year and spend the rest of the time looking at it probably, hence why I specified lower end brands.

I have shot both along with the Rock islands. All would be fine to get your dad. Now Springfield has a deal on their Mil Spec for $549 too

There is a 1911 Forum that covers most brands. Here's the RIA section but the whole site is pretty good.

RIA is GTG.
It took me a loooong time to be able to say that but they really are OK! My tactical ultra FS .45 is a phenomenal shooter. I understand these also have a lot of hand fitting.
Less MIM in them than a Kimber!

One of my current favorites is an RIA full size 9mm.
Super light recoil.

I own the ATI Titan FX45 in stainless steel. While it’s the 3” version the build quality is fine, so I wouldn’t hesitate to go with the 5” version as well.
