Florida bill seeks to lower gun-buying age to 18

The law only covers purchases. Not ownership. Anyone 18 years or older can own a gun in Florida. Several times a nineteen your old wanted to make a purchase, & couldn’t, but since a parent was there, they could make the purchase, & gift it to the child. Perfectly legal. GARY.

An 8 year old can have a gun as long as his mommy says it's okay. A 19 year old has the same option and you call that a right?

Plus you & me both are over 21.

What you're saying is I have my rights, so screw the next guy.

The country was not in that bad a shape when a responsible looking 15 year old could just go to a hardware store and buy a gun.

I’m assuming we’re talking about long guns here, because since 1968 I believe it’s been Federal law that one must be 21 to purchase a handgun from a FFL anywhere in the US. So any law Florida may consider to go back to 18 would only concern long guns. So would that 19 year old female college student carry an AR for protection? GARY.

Yes, long guns are what they're barred from buying. So that 19 year old college student can't buy a Mavrick 88 to protect themselves in their ratty rental apartments.

Republican Senate Leadership against the bill to repeal the Under 21 Purchase Ban. Bill is basically dead at this point.


Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, R-Naples, said Wednesday she does not support a proposal to lower the minimum age from 21 to 18 to buy rifles and other long guns in Florida. "We don't have it in the Senate," Passidomo told reporters. "Nobody's filed it."

I saw that also, its like this senate president said we did enough for 2nd amendment supporters already this year.
