Marco Rubio lying like usual.

Post by Miami_JBT »

Marco Rubio, Florida's Senior Republican Senator in Congress gave a rousing speech on the Senate floor back on July 12 about the what is currently going on in Cuba.

WHAT [VICTIMS] HAVE TO DO IS… YOU HAVE TO GIVE US THE POWER IN GOVERNMENT TO TAKE CARE OF THESE OPPRESSORS, TO GO AFTER THESE OPPRESSORS. AND IF YOU GIVE US THAT POWER, WE WILL DELIVER YOU SECURITY; WE WILL PROTECT YOU FROM THE OPPRESSORS. THEY ASK FOR SECURITY IN EXCHANGE FOR FREEDOM. THAT IS ALWAYS THE PRICE THAT SOCIALISM ASKS FOR: SECURITY. AND WHAT YOU WIND UP WITH IS A COUNTRY OF PEOPLE THAT HATE EACH OTHER, THAT ARE ANGRY AT EACH OTHER. A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY HAVE TO LEAVE, HAVE TO FLEE, GO TO JAIL BECAUSE THEY ARE THE OPPRESSOR CLASS, THEIR LIVES ARE DESTROYED, THEIR FAMILY LIVES ARE DESTROYED.

BUT SOCIALISM CAN'T DELIVER THE SECURITY. AND WHEN IT CAN'T DELIVER THE SECURITY, YOU DON'T GET YOUR FREEDOM BACK. AND IN FACT, WHEN YOU START TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT, THAT IS WHEN THE REPRESSION COMES. THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENED IN CUBA.

It sounds great right? He talks about how the government cons people into trading their freedoms for security. Sounds much like Benjamin Franklin's famous quote of "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

So where is the hypocrisy with Sen. Rubio? Simple. He's pushing his own false promises by trying to get Americans to trade their freedoms for a false sense of security. Back February, Sen. Rubio reintroduced S.183, the Terror Intelligence Improvement Act bill. He boasted the following in his press release.

AFTER THE TERRORIST ATTACK AT PULSE NIGHTCLUB, I MADE A PROMISE TO IMPROVE OUR LAWS TO MAKE IT MORE DIFFICULT FOR EVIL PEOPLE TO GET AHOLD OF GUNS. THIS BILL IS A COMMON-SENSE MEASURE THAT WOULD HELP ENSURE CRIMINALS, TERRORISTS, AND OTHERS SEEKING TO TAKE INNOCENT LIVES ARE NOT ABLE TO ACQUIRE FIREARMS, WHILE ALSO PROTECTING THE DUE PROCESS AND SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS OF INNOCENT, LAW-ABIDING AMERICANS.

Sounds great right? Well, it gets better. Sen. Rubio co-sponsored S.675, the the NICS Denial Notification Act bill. Again, Sen. Rubio stated the following in a press release back in March.

OUR NATION HAS EXPERIENCED FAR TOO MANY TRAGEDIES AS A RESULT OF MULTI-SYSTEMATIC FAILURES OF COMMUNICATION. THE NICS DENIAL NOTIFICATION ACT WOULD HELP ENSURE THAT FEDERAL AND STATE AUTHORITIES ARE SUCCESSFULLY COMMUNICATING WITH ONE ANOTHER WHEN IT COMES TO DANGEROUS INDIVIDUALS’ PROHIBITED ATTEMPTS TO ACQUIRE FIREARMS. THIS WOULD BE A STRONG STEP FORWARD IN PREVENTING FUTURE TRAGEDIES. I URGE MY COLLEAGUES TO IMMEDIATELY SUPPORT THIS BIPARTISAN LEGISLATION SO THAT THE PRESIDENT CAN SWIFTLY SIGN IT INTO LAW.

You see a pattern emerging right? Sen. Rubio wants to have Americans stripped of their rights to purchase firearms because they're on government watch lists. Lists that aren't open to the public, lists that are run by unelected bureaucrats, lists that can be used to control and destroy anyone that the government and those in charge deem as political dissidents or enemies of the state.

Sounds similar to Cuba right? Because that is exactly how the Cuban Government operates. The Cuban Secret Police, the G2, operate a number of lists. They catalog, track, and rank the people on a threat matrix and from there harass them by limiting the social services they can access, deny those listed from jobs and education, or simply scoop them up in the middle of the night to never be heard from again.

The American terror watch list is a tool that can be used in a similar fashion. Even CNN, the Authoritarians' political propaganda channel has done news stories on how much of a screw up the terror watch list is. Here's some highlights from their 2015 article on the issue.

SEN. TED KENNEDY TOLD THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE IN 2004 THAT HE HAD BEEN STOPPED AND INTERROGATED ON AT LEAST FIVE OCCASIONS AS HE ATTEMPTED TO BOARD FLIGHTS AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT AIRPORTS. A BUSH ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL EXPLAINED TO THE WASHINGTON POST THAT KENNEDY HAD BEEN HELD UP BECAUSE THE NAME “T. KENNEDY” HAD BECOME A POPULAR PSEUDONYM AMONG TERROR SUSPECTS.

ON THE SAME DAY KENNEDY REVEALED HIS FLIGHT TROUBLES, CIVIL RIGHTS ICON AND LONGTIME REP. JOHN LEWIS REVEALED HE, TOO, HAD BEEN SNARLED BY THE WATCHLIST DRAGNET. ACCORDING TO HIS OFFICE, THE GEORGIA DEMOCRAT HAD OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR BEEN HELD UP 35 TO 40 TIMES. DESPITE REACHING OUT TO A NUMBER OF FEDERAL AGENCIES OVER THAT PERIOD, LEWIS’ NAME HAD REMAINED ON A LIST.

Does that look like a well run system?

No, and furthermore, there is no way for the public to know if they're on the list and why. Yet worse, there is no way to challenge one's inclusion to the list unless you're a high ranking and well connected member of the government.

If you're John or Jane Q. Public, good luck getting off the list.

But here we have Sen. Rubio wanting to make it to where that anyone on the list is stripped of their legal rights to purchase and own firearms.

As a Cuban American, I find Sen. Rubio to be a dishonest and distasteful. He is an Authoritarian that wraps himself up in the banner of liberty and uses it as a costume to hide his true self. Worse, he uses his heritage as a Cuban American to push his lies and slanders those in Cuba fighting for their freedoms right now.

He preaches about the horrors of Cuba and how bad it is there, yet he pushes for the very same systems and practices that allow the Communist Regime to operate. He isn't against the boot of oppression. Oh no, far from it. He's just angry that he's not wearing the boot and curb stomping liberty.

This isn't the first time he's pushed gun control. He's been doing it his entire political career. He is no friend of the Second Amendment and the Constitution. He is not a champion of liberty and freedom. He is a [i[estafador[/i] (con artist in Spanish) and will sell you lies as he steals your freedom for his own personal gains.

Let's this image be an example. In the US, we have the tools to resist tyranny. In Cuba, they have nothing but sticks and stones. NEVER GIVE UP YOUR GUNS!

When was the last time Florida had a U.S. Senator that WASN'T a total piece of shit?

Mel Martinez--honestly, I can't remember anything about him.

Connie Mack--another corporate hack.

Paula Hawkins--lol.

I submit you will have a very hard time finding one.

When Floridians stop backing shit, they'll stop getting shit.

I was at a recent event as a quest speaker and half the crowd was all talking up about how great Rubio was because Trump suddenly endorsed him. The fact that Trump endorsed him made the crowd suddenly support him. It just showed that people can't think for themselves.

We have had this discussion before--our GOP voters from up north give us a GOP that sucks. It is like a light version of what they fled. I am not foreseeing any major changes for the better with all our new residents.

I know you are unhappy with De Santis, too, but overall he is half-a-miracle compared to our usual GOP governors.

I gave up on Rubio during his presidential campaign when he based the whole thing on America electing an inexperienced moron (Obomba).

He clearly stated on freaking television that America fell for it once, and that he was confident that we were stupid enough to fall for it again!

I'm not unhappy with DeSantis. I'm simply disappointed that he doesn't have the political chutzpah like his Democratic rivals do when it comes to pushing issues and using their offices as bully pulpits. I've spoken to him in person and was proud to work on the detail when I was still sworn. But he's been a bit of a weak handshake. That's all.

Compared to our prior Governors, DeSantis is freaking awesome. Compared to other Governors across the country. DeSantis is middle of the pack on a lot of things.

Dude BARELY won in 2018. I think he will do better next year, but in the political calculus, he can't afford to alienate anybody in the middle, and he has the right locked up. This is what you are going to get as a result.

There are other states that have some shit senators that just amaze me. Utah and Alaska each have one flaming turd. How did THAT happen? I m not even talking about the GOP collapse in Georgia--that one I understand.

I get Alaska.... she's a master at getting pork barrel projects for Alaska and her voter base loves her for it. Utah is an odd place.... Jeff Flake, Mitt Romney, etc.... honestly, it is the Mormon factor in play there.

Yes, DeSantis won by the skin of his teeth. It was a close race and there are more registered Democrats than Republicans, plus more NPAs than either side. But the Legislature is under a Republican supermajority hold. He could at least use his office and bully pulpit for things that are actually good for the state. His Anti-Riot bill was nothing but window dressing for the most part. Same with the anti Big Tech bill. That's going to crash and burn in the courts.

Instead, he could bully pulpit for things like better reduction of taxes, constitutional carry, e-verify of illegals (oh wait, he did and the RPOF killed that), etc....

The problem is who gets on the primary ballot, and later on the general election ballot.
For the last 30 plus years, it has very often come down to voting for the lesser of two evils, or jerks, depending on your feelings on the candidates.
It is hard to find truly good candidates for high public office, as most people don't wish to go through all the campaigning shit that have to put up with, and then all the shit that have to deal with while in office.
I've held city level elected office a couple times in the years past, and what I saw and had to put up with made we swear off running for elected office of any sort, ever again.
