5.56x45 suppressor?

Post by captain steinbrenner » Mon Jan 28, 2013 2:38 pm

I want to buy a suppressor for my SIG556 SBR and my Tavor, what's the best I can get?
Would like something if possible that I could shoot 22LR too.
Dealers PM me with what you have. =:e

FWIW, it's a bad, bad, bad idea to shoot .22RF in a .223 centerfire can.

Doc Dater (owner of Gemtech) lectured me on this awhile back. Unlike handgun and rimfire cans, centerfire rifle cans must withstand much higher pressures, so they are welded together (i.e., they cannot be taken apart to be cleaned). And .22RF is a very, very dirty round. Shooting rimfire in a .223 can will quickly fill it with unburned powder and crap -- making it louder and, potentially, damage it by creating hot and cold spots inside the can. At best, you'll have to sent it back to the manufacturer periodically to be cut apart, cleaned and welded back together. At worst, the can will rupture on you.

Your Mileage May Vary, but I sure wouldn't do it.

Ask flcracker how he likes the AWC Raider I sold him. I sold it only because I wasn't using it. I think it's one of the better 5.56 cans available.

I would look at Surefire as well. I have the QD flash suppressors on all of my AR's which allows me to use the silencer on all of them.

I decided to do 2 cans..one rimfire and one centerfire. I chose a silencerco Sparrow for rimfire which will support pretty much all of them out there, and went with a AAC SDN-6 for my rifles...5.56, 300aac blackout, 6.8 and 30 cals.

Absolutely agree with Tony on this one. I had exactly the same talk with Dr. Dater several years ago. Over time .22 will definately foul up you 5.56 can. Not a good idea.

I'm liking it a lot. A lightweight titanium can would be nice, but they're pricey. The Raider lets me use this to do this at 200 yds with no hearing protection (most cans will tighten your groups a bit):
