Centerfire Rifle Postal Match

Here's one for you rifle loving folks.
Just for fun/bragging rights. No prizes awarded.

Rules:
10 rounds, .223 or .30 caliber
50 yards.
No scopes. That's right- use your Iron Sights for once!
Standing/off-hand position. No bi-pods, or bench-rests. Slings are Okay.
2 minute time limit for course of fire, beginning on first trigger pull.
V-ring is for tie-breaking only (counts as 5 points).
Any round that crosses the line to the next highest scoring ring counts as the higher of the two scores.


Maximum Score = 50 points

Match runs until September 30, 2009. Targets must be submitted by 11:59pm EST September 30.

Wherever, and as often, as I can.

Mainly at Hernando Sportsmens Club, but I also get down to Manatee Gun and Archery Club every now and then.

I've shot a few times at Shoot Straight of Tampa, but find that the range/store staff have an 'air' about them that I find distasteful.

I'd love to get involved in a pistol match, though I've got to say that I am horribly inaccurate with a pistol... At least compared to some of the targets I've seen on the previous match threads.

The wife and I shoot at SS in Tampa on a weekly basis. There has some serious turn over in staff and some of the new guys have given us some grief. To the point of us checking out other ranges. Maybe the new SS in Lakeland will be better staffed. We shall see.

There's only one way to get better. Practice. Darn the luck!

I just printed out the target...is the v circle supposed to be a couple mm's smaller than a nickel?

If not, how wide is the base of the target supposed to be? The way I have it printed , it's only 5 3/8ths inches wide.

Here you go. All 9 points worth. This is what I get for going to the range with 30 rounds of ammo and 3 targets. This was my first group of 10, then I shot the target I had underneath it with 10, then I decided to shoot the last target with my SKS, and forgot that I had the sights set for 200 yds...and put 10 more holes in the middle target.

So this is what I left with. Enjoy.

Cetme, iron sights, standing, sling, 50 yards. Brown Bear fmj 150g .308 ammo.

How about keeping the match going until the end of October?
The FSN shoot is on 10/10 and I am shure there will be some targets there to add in.
I will add mine soon....(mabye I can get 3 or 4 points)

Well, I suppose the 'match' could be extended to the end of October.

The target, when printed properly, should measure ~8.5" at the base, with a 1.25" "V" ring.

Be sure that you have the page set to "landscape" and page scaling turned off.

I am attaching a .pdf containing this target, as well as some other targets.

The target in question is the largest in the .pdf, and is the first of four pages of targets.

I should have my AR up and running shortly, and will post scans of my targets as soon as they are shot. (even if they suck)

I'm going to be a little mean and ask: You did read the part where it said "shoot while standing," right?

How did you get that kind of accuracy out of a M1 carbine while standing? I'm impressed - I could barely do that while shooting from a bench rest.

I'll see about getting to the range this weekend - I had meant to take some targets with me and shoot when I went to North Carolina a few weeks ago, but left the targets sitting here in Florida. Oh well.

It is only 50 yards, so I was a little disapointed that the grouping was off to the left. I love the M1 carbine and shoot one of mine EVERY Sunday rain or shine as long as I'm able. Practice may not make berfect, but it does make us better.

'practice makes perfect' is, plain and simple, a myth. Only perfect practice makes perfect, and all too few are familiar enough with the necessary skills to employ perfect practice. (as an aside, attending an Appleseed Event will familiarize you with the methodology used to employ perfect practice)
