Fiat Pulls a Volkswagon on cheating tests

Post by Nicolas » Wed May 24, 2017 3:19 am

The 3.0l Diesel engine fitted in many Dodge trucks etc has been giving testers false economy figures, thanks to software deliberately installed. The move is similar to the bullshit Volkswagon pulled to show false emission figures, in their diesel engines.

Legal action is now being taken.... not sure if this will hit Fiat as hard as the scandal hit Volkswagon, we will see.

Not surprising.
Car makers have been fibbing about fuel mileage and horsepower ratings as long as I can remember.
No two drivers will get the same mileage from the same vehicle with same engine anyway.

Yes but the government have set limits to engine emissions and fuel consumptio .... and in some cases government backing in development.... this is more than over hyping a car to make a sale.

This will be huge news for the 3 people in the USA that own a fiat.

Most of the Fiats around here are the little 500.
There's a few vans, but not nearly as many as the Dodge Sprint (Mercedes) or Ford.

The problem is with the Ram 1500 Diesel, there's thousands of them in Mexico waiting the ok to be imported in. :ham'r
Instead off putting a Cummins in it they choose that POS FIAT engine and it looks that is biting them in the ass. [smilie=011.gif]

The Dodge/Ram Promaster, as pictured above, is actually a Fiat Ducato, imported/re-badged by FCA. The diesel version uses the 3.0 4 cyl.

That 3.0 diesel is actually pretty BA. Too bad they had to get janky on the sniffer

Anyone see the new Fiat 124 sports car?
Very reminiscent of the one from the 1960s and 1970s.
A little wider and fatter, though.
But aren't we all.
Hopefully, the new one is more reliable.

Meh...looks like a Miata and a Z3 had a same-sex relationship...only 160hp.

I'll take an Alfa 4C, thank you (237hp):

Yeah, that's a beauty.
But from personal experience, the more horsepower the faster they fall apart.
Especially from the land of wine for lunch.

Side shot looks like a lotus or that goofball hyundai veloster.

But it does look good. Small light cars that can handle and have lower HP arent super popular here but seem to have a decent following. I'd have much more fun in a track car like that fiat than in something like that dopey dodge with 700+ hp.

Yes, that’s correct.

The Chrysler 300 is sold under the Lancia brand in Europe. When you overlook the cheating that VW did on the emissions, their TDI engines are actually very good, they are lively and economic.

I drove German Opel Insignias, marketed as Buick Regals here, Passat TDIs, Audi, Peugeot, Cooper and BMW diesels. I was invited to try a Golf Diesel, a Lexus 250 and the Insignia on the Nürburgring a few years ago, too. With the BMWs I got 40 to 50 mpg on the Autobahn - and when the left lane was free I usually cruised at 135 mph. I equally enjoyed the VW Passat station wagons or Golf GTD with the 2.0 TDI and 184 hp, they got the same mpg as the BMW.

The Cooper had a diesel engine manufactured by Peugeot. IMHO all European diesel manufacturers have cheated, only VW had been caught. All diesels, from Italy, France, Czech republic (building versions of VW labeld as Skoda), to Germany all have similiar engine data, mpg, torque and horse power.
