I always register for the party that has the more interesting primary for the big races. Might be the GOP in '24, but if not, I'm doing exactly as you are. The unitary (or unitard) block of liberals detest him for dissenting over Covid-19 (and other) vaccines--that was their club to bash the "deplorables."
