Famous drag racer Tom McEwen has passed. Man what a rivalry he had with Prudhomme. Godspeed Mongoose.

Wow.... I recall his rivalry with Don "The Snake" Prudhome....

Those guys went on the “match racing” circuit back then. At the time, there were only 8 sanctioned NHRA races a year. The other weekends they would go to smaller tracks that were too small to host a national event. Since it wasn’t a sanctioned event, there were no rules. So the cars would actually go faster than the ones at NHRA events. Also burnouts in flaming gasoline, or alcohol were common. They brought the fastest cars all over the country. Nowadays, that wouldn’t be possible, with 26 races a season, & increased costs. Back then, I’d pay $6 to see the quickest cars in the country do battle. Plenty of other top fuel racers of the day participated in the match race circuit.
