The Democrat party is firmly in the claws of the most extreme liberal fractions. Not a surprise that they have those wet dreams. How much of it is going to happen is a whole different story.

The economy is supposed to be on the precipice of going to hell by then.
Fun times ahead.

This sounds like a hyperbolic pipe dream.

So did Obamacare, which we still have after over a year of solid GOP rule, and Florida gun restrictions, after many years of solid GOP rule.

You underestimate the Dems at your peril.

Obamacare got pushed through by the Dems pulling in literally every political favor they could. Florida gun restrictions didn't make it to our State Constitution and might be wheeled back yet. While I don't personally disagree with State subsidized college ( there is nothing wrong with investing in your citizenship ), the universal healthcare and lol reparations would wreck havoc on literally every budget. There is no way most people would go for that either as the people who suffered are loooooooooong dead.

This is the problem with the internet--too many like-minded talking to each other. The Dems do it, yes--but so do we.

Not gonna deny that, everyone gravitates towards their particular echo chamber.

Where is the money going to come from? The idiots that believe these people need to have their brains(or what is left) examined.

College for all, really? If there is a job waiting for the degree, I just might get behind it, with some caveats. No H1B visas for the positions that the subsidized degrees. If the student receiving the degree does not become a productive citizen they become responsible for the degrees cost (yes I know, how are they going to pay it back). Minimum GPA to stay in college under subsidy. And most important, political posturing by professors will not be tolerated, bullying students over politics completely forbidden.
Better than the above, bring back the Glass/Segal Act. Not only does it make another collapse like we had from the housing market bubble burst. It allows students to clear student debt through bankruptcy. This one thing will rein in lenders from throwing money at students pursuing worthless degrees because they will not be able to bundle non secured debt into securities. This will fix the college education system by encouraging students to get degrees that lenders are will pay for.

Private lenders always have the option to refuse to make risky loans.
What would correct the $1T+ student loan debt would be to get the government out of the education loan business.
It is not the proper role of government to guarantee student loans underwritten by taxpayers.
A pertinent question to ask is, “Is a college degree worth the cost?”

An interesting bit from your linked article:
Skip College and Go to Trade School

Parents are stumped Why an Honors Student Wants to Skip College and Go to Trade School.

Raelee Nicholson earns A’s in her honors classes at a public high school south of Pittsburgh and scored in the 88th percentile on her college boards.

But instead of going to college, Ms. Nicholson hopes to attend a two-year technical program that will qualify her to work as a diesel mechanic. Her guidance counselor, two teachers and several other adults tell her she’s making a mistake.

When she was 14, Raelee rebuilt a car with her older cousin. She doesn’t listen to those trying to dissuade her from her passion. “Diesel mechanics charge $80 an hour,” she says.

My7 son did pretty much that, got trained as a mechanic in one of the last high school auto shop programs, right out of HS he started a wheel and hubcap business, sold at 100% profit after a year, went to work in a series of auto shop and store management jobs, got hired by a major oil company as a trainer for their car lube/repair business. Then he retired at age 43 and is cruising the Caribbean in his catamaran, now in the Virgin Islands.

His classmates who went to college are almost all still wage slaves, sitting at desks in a job they've gotten sick and tired of.

Follow your dream. Doing the"normal" thing is why most people hate their jobs.

If my old brain recalls correctly, Joseph Campbell said, "Follow your bliss."

Things change and, at 71 I have seen a lot of changes. I would give a child of mine (don't have any) different advice now than even 30 years ago, let alone 50. Now, unless one has ability and desire in the medical field, I certainly would make suggestions along the lines of the above posts. Above all, find something you like to do >>that can be delivered here in the US<<. That is, something that cannot be outsourced. Engineering? Hah! You and a few others can get something developed and started and Poof! it's off to China. They have engineers, too, and can follow along all those plans/drawings/specifications/calculations a US team has done. When you need to move along, you need to figure out how to repay those student loans.

Someone who has a talent for electricity, be an electrician, and be the best you can, and find an unfilled niche. A great example is the lady who wants so be a diesel mechanic. She saw how much they charge, has a talent for it, and does what is needed to get into the field. Same can be said for any number of trades, especially those requiring a license. Not going to ship a truck to China to fix a bad injector.

Working for yourself, you're not in the corporate politics swamp. Sure, if someone is a good weasel and loves the politics, go the corporate way. Need family connections, though.

If you can tolerate it, work for the US government. Don't shoot for the top layer, though as that is political, as in which party is in power. But, mid levels in some departments are nice and cozy and some quite overpaid - think Patent Office if you are an engineer. There are other problems, of course, and I'll not take up the space for them.

Work for yourself in the right field and you can take care of your future. Might not be Social Security in the way we know it byt the time a 25 year old reaches retirement age. Got to plan for that. (let him who understands, etc.)
