Thanks for cornholing us, Alabama GOP

Post by tector » Tue Dec 12, 2017 11:06 pm

You just had to nominate this turd to show everybody you couldn't be pushed around--a cretinous Bible thumper of the worst kind, the type who makes me embarrassed to be associated with the GOP. Just for a spite nomination. (And, just to refresh the recollections of any mouthbreathers here, Trump supported a Moore OPPONENT in the GOP primary and runoff).

Good job, you sisterfucking, dirteating hillbillies--you just made Mississippi looked advanced.

Maybe this will help wake up the GOP nationally, who knows. Trying to find some silver lining here.

One silver lining: can we be done with Steve Bannon now? Trump shitcanned him, and now he managed to find a way to lose Alabama. ALABAMA, for God's sake! That is truly the reverse Midas touch.

Yep. Republicans snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on this one.

How the f/;k can you lose Alabama - one of the reddest states in the union?!

I am so furious--a completely self-inflicted wound. It was tight as hell in the Senate already--and now we give up an own goal?!?

Trump isn't the leader of a new populism, he just ran out in front of it, but in the primary Moore ran out in front of Trump. If Moore hadn't of liked 14 year old girls, he'd be a thorn in the side of RINOs like Mitch McConnell in the senate tonight, and all you Trump voters would have been in love with him. Being from and taking place in Alabama had nothing to do with it.

You are wrong. I bitch about the Florida GOP all the time--but it would never nominate a bozo like this. Never. This required Alabama stupid. I am not letting them off the hook.

Yes, it's almost as if Trump is a disaster as a national leader of the republican party, flailing around trying to claim victory when things pan out for someone else's plan, and blaming the rest of the party when his absence of leadership turns the GOP into every faction for itself. Who could have predicted that outcome when a man without ethics or experience is given the most important leadership role in the party?

Wait 'til the mid-terms. The Senate may be up for safe, but we will probably see a 30 seat swing in the house. And if we see another disaster or two, even the senate won't be safe.

I think we will hold the House, but obviously tighter. All I can say on the Senate is that we are very lucky that a lot more Dem seats are up than ours.

They had jeff sessions ignorant ass then threw up this wanna be texan cowboy bible thumping caveman. Good job GOP, keep doubling down on the same sh!t and keep losing. Gave up on them a while ago.

And yeah, alabama is quite conservative but they have quite a huge po-folk population that would probably support the dem.

It took a long series of accidents and mistakes to nominate a fool like Moore, not just a molester of underage girls (even if you discount that because the suspicious Washington Post expose' timing, to late for a different Republican candidate but early enough to have an effect) but a proponent of what amounts to Christian Sharia, getting bounced off the Alabama Supreme Court twice for that.

What happened was that the previous governor of AL was under impeachment when Session left the Senate for AG. The governor then appointed Luther Strange to the Senate, and left office less than 2 months later. This stunk to high heaven.
Then the new governor announced a quickie election instead of waiting until next year, which would have allowed Strange to pick up more support in his Senate position.
There were too many candidates for the Republican Primary and the best one, Moe Brooks, got submerged by the others, leaving Strange to face Moore in a run-off. Which Moore won because of Strange's lingering taint of corruption.

Despite Alabama's distaste for Democrats - even ones masquerading as "Moderates" like Jones - Moore's crappy explanation of the teen accusations and poor campaigning gave the election to Jones.

Of course Democrats are dancing around, giving high fives and calling it a defeat for Trump and Bannon, but that election was the Alabama Republicans, and especially Moore's to lose, and they blew it.

This pretty much nailed it. I've still got a lot of ties back to Alabama (Huntsville area) and that is, to a tee, why the R's threw that one in the garbage.

Most of my friends lean Republican or Libertarian/Voluntarist and several of them either filled in the bubble for Jones or said "Nope. I'm outie." to this election. Couple that in with bringing in someone like David Clarke to sing your praises, Moore's law professor coming out and saying he was a f*** up, brandishing a revolver during a rally, and the "I think our attorney is a Jew" commentary and it was just too much to handle. He was viewed by a lot of people as some mashup caricature of all the worst stereotypes you could have of an Alabaman. Also from chats with some people connected in with Moore's family he's a Tier-1 a-hole to boot.

Best guess, Jones is in for 2 years and gone and, Odin/God/Xenu/Whoever willing, Roy Moore shuts the f*** up and goes the f*** away like he should have a few years ago.

If Trump is stupid enough to fire Mueller, pardon himself, or, worse actually gets himself impeached, the party is really fucked. By the time it would get sorted out, it will be the 2020 election cycle, and we may end up with a super majority of democrats in the senate.

Trump's not going to fire Mueller. Mueller is hanging himself.
