Colt revolver questions....

Post by neverenoughguns » Mon Mar 07, 2016 10:32 pm

Just curious as to value and/or anything interesting about a revolver that a friend is selling. It is a Police Positive. One of the grips has a small chance missing. Finish is maybe 70%-80%.

It looks like a colt official police model. I have one just like it I inhearited from my dad. It should be rolled marked on the left side barrel. You can hit the net with the serial number on colts web site and it will give you the model and year it was made. Remember the old guns will have same numbers used on several different models.

Based on finished GunBroker auctions, it looks like the value ranges between $250 - 350. But, you should do research as to year of production as there may be some production runs that are more valuable than others.

Maybe it was the angle of the camera relative to the gun but the cylinder gap, from top to bottom, looks off.
Possibly from someone flipping the cylinder closed, like folks do in the movies which can cause a bent crane.
Not a complete deal breaker, but you might want to check it.

In 2007 I paid $199 for a 1921 manufacture Police Positive Special cal 32-20, and paid $250 for a 3rd Generation (early 70's) Police Positive Special cal 38 Special.
What is the caliber of the revolver in the photos?

I believe it was 38 special. Honestly, I cleaned it up and returned it to the owner. I may still be interested by at the time was more focused on NFA items.... I do believe the crane or the cylinder post may have been slightly out of spec as the cylinder did not always spin freely
