How to rejuvenate a holster?

Post by Fridlo » Sun Feb 15, 2015 7:14 pm

I have come into posession of a Safariland leather holster for belt wearing. It is in good shape, but has become very hard so that a pistol it was designed for is difficult to put into it. Any suggestions on how to rejuvenate the holster, make it supple again?

Thanks, Fridlo

Do you just want to make the firearm slide in and out easier or do you really want to make the leather softer?

If you just want to make it so the firearm is easier to holster, then unload your firearm and wrap some blue tape around the areas where it fits too tightly. Clean the holster thoroughly with a damp cloth (very warm water works best). While the holster is still moist, holster and reholster the firearm until the leather has stretched to your liking. Allow the leather to dry completely and it should retain it's new shape.

If you want to make the leather softer as well, follow the above instructions and then after the leather dries, rub lightly with coconut oil, peanut oil or baseball glove conditioner.
