64-1 shouldn't be that pricy. Say, $350 or so? Hard to find better quality for that price.

A model 64 is a model 66 without the sights and in .38 not .357. Lots around, not a premium for them. Good solid gun but not a collector model.

Actually what a model 64 is is a model 10 (M&P) in SS.
There are more differences than sights and chambering (no ejector rod shroud for one).
I would like a 3" M64 or M65 (.357)!

Thanks for the clarification. Now My understanding is a model 65 is kind of rare and hard to find

I got a S&w M 65 and several M10s but just got some of the Brinks trade in 64s. They are still available at J&G for $250 up.

Are there no un-bobbed hammer assemblies available?

Yep, that's the problem. However, as a home defense pistol for a recoil sensitive shooter, a DA only K-frame stainless steel revolver in 38spl is a sweet piece. No, you cannot fight off the zombie invasion with only six rounds. However, you can shoot the odd B&E rapist six times in the groin. Should calm the situation down until the police collect the body.

Great gun, congrats. Go look around, I picked up a standard hammer on line for $15 and threw it into a gun awhile back.
What new gun my dear, this old thing?

BE CAREFUL with those they are usually ones that some hack watched a youtube video and attempted an action job and mucked them all up, then they scrap them of Fleabay
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.
