How do they measure barrel length on a revolver?

Post by Big_Mike » Sun Mar 02, 2014 11:20 am

Is it from the tip to the frame or down to the forcing cone/cylinder gap?

I could be totally wrong but Id imagine from the face of where the battery chambers to the tip of the barrel.

This link might help, one posted claims the BATFE set a standard on revolver barrel length checking and its from the muzzle to breach face, making the above answer correct.

That's not just revolvers. The same standard is used for all guns (end of the muzzle to the breach/bolt face).

Hear that revolvers in England are required to have barrels long enough to be able to hold them by the muzzle end and use them as golf clubs.

Think I've worked with some machines of a similar vintage (and older) . . . beautiful pieces of engineering.

basically yes...we are not allowed hand guns but under the definitions a long barrelled rotary mag rifle is legal ... hence the loophole.
