Carry license. Finally

Post by czharry » Thu Aug 04, 2016 2:33 pm

I procrastinated long enough. Every day on the news (local & national) I see how bad things are getting.
I'm not insanely paranoid, but I am getting a bit concerned, especially since I have attained "old fart" status, which pisses me off.

I was getting 'antsy' because it was taking so long. It was 65 days.
My masters have issued my license today (8/4). Will wait 7-10 days for the mail.

I tell everyone to get one, just to avoid the waiting period. Nothing worse than seeing the gun you want but not being able to buy it because the waiting period screws up the delivery/pick up costs.

Nothing worse than not having one when they decide not to issue them.

Many people I speak to at gun shows who have a permit have no desire to carry. They only want the permit to be able to take the gun home NOW. GARY

Never felt I needed one until recently. Under this administration, life has become much more dangerous.
I could car carry.

Plus, all that trying to find a police station locally that would do fingerprints was exhausting. You'd be surprised to find that they won't do them for civilians even though they are on the Dept of Licensing "list". Then mailing in the package ........ hassle.

Then they opened up the local offices. What a boon for (law-abiding) mankind.
Thus, The Story.

Is 65 days the current average wait time to receive after application now?

I have seen where people got theirs in 2 or 3 weeks, then seen longer waits, but not 65 days. My friend, who was chatting with the lady at the desk, told me that counties or areas with high populations and high license applications take longer to process.

I didn't check to see where the licensing offices were located, but obviously, Miami-Dade would be a high application area. I really expected to get it in 3 weeks, but was getting concerned after 30 days. I guess hundreds of applications are transmitted to Tallahassee every day.
At least they email a number and web site to check your application. When I was getting "antsy", I would check every day. "Sorry, your application is in the works, but it's not ready yet.' And they remind you that they have 90 days in which to approve or reject your application.

So, is 65 days "normal"? I don't know, maybe, for this area. Maybe my app landed on Betty-Sue's terminal and she was on vacation.
