Drill press milling question

Post by better2have&notneed » Sun Oct 19, 2014 7:48 pm

I've been thinking about making something out of steel that would require a milling machine. I know one off items at a machine shop can cost more than they're worth, so I was thinking about doing it myself.
I have bench top Craftsman drill press 2/3hp, 5 speed.....if I got a drill press milling vice and used a 1/8" end mill, could the drill press handle it?
I would basically be trimming it down to my final size, I can cut the majority of the material with a cutoff wheel.
Anybody here ever done anything like this?
Thanks, Jason

drill press are not made to do horizontal load, I used mine that way on aluminum and it now spins and wobbles, I wouldn't ....
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

I want a "stub" identical the first 3" of an AK47 stock. I was going to go about a 1/2" past the second screw hole. I want to make my own stock and handguards. I don't have a solid piece big enough, so I was planning on using two pieces stacked up. Drill and tap the screw holes.
