1911 Refinish - BAD

Post by Krozi » Mon Mar 03, 2014 11:59 am

I picked this 1911 up locally for CHEAP. It's a bit of a Frankenstein gun, the previous owner had bought it with the intention of refinishing it but I guess he gave up and listed it for sale. I haven't shot it yet but I'm told it runs like a champ and is dead on.

I figured I'd give it a shot and refinish it so I can have a cheap gun to drag around the woods and not care about. It had a WELDED on rail...I started grinding it off with a bench grinder until it was far enough down to do a little detail work with a Dremel and hand files. Detail stripping a 1911 is definitely a bit more involved than a Glock. Once I got the frame sanded smooth, I hit it with some engine enamel spray paint and stuck it in the oven to cure. For being in the condition that it was, it came out GREAT! :ber

Really nice job you did on that Frankengun. Hard to believe it's the same gun.

Excellent job. It's always a good thing when someone brings a ol' unloved firearm back from the brink.

Hey man when you need a weapon light you need a weapon light LOL

It was a Novak drill and tap rail...dude drilled and tapped the holes into the receiver but for some reason ended up welding it on anyway :-k
