Standing Rib Roast

Post by ParishM » Sun Apr 09, 2017 11:15 pm

$5.99lb at Publix this week, about as cheap as you'll find at Publix !

30 minutes at 500˚ (weight x 5) then shut off oven and wait 2hrs without opening door.
came out perfect !

I haven't gotten a good piece of red meat out of Publix in a year.

I won't buy there anymore

We have that exact same roasting pan. Did you put the lid on it when cooking?

Whatever its other flaws, Winn-Dixie has always had better beef and (pork) than Publix. This was true when I was a kid (Kwik-Chek anybody?) and is still true. Still, you occasionally find some decent beef at Publix, so it may just have been that the OP got lucky.

Usually a local option (a butcher or grocery) is going to be the best. You can get great stuff at Whole Foods, but the prices...forget it.

I am also going say something shocking: I had gotten some decent beef (chuck roasts at least) at Aldi, cheap.

actually the piece i got was 9lbs and i had the Publix butcher cut
off a 3lb section, remove the ribs, and grind it into chuck for burgers.

this was tonights dinner, stuffed with fresh garlic and diced onions
and marinated with au jus from the roast :)
