Got an Electric Smoker....Should have done it sooner...

Post by NorincoKid » Sat Nov 19, 2016 2:01 pm

Not sure where else to share this, but I wish I would have got one of these years ago.

Its pretty neat, its basically a little outdoor "hot box" you you load up with wood and slow cook in. So far I've gotten some decent ribs out of it, and a mediocre shoulder.

I keep it out on the back porch, its pretty easy to clean. So far I love this thing..

Any "meat" guys on here, and tips/tricks for getting great (not good...great) tasting BBQ out of one of these? Last time I smashed up a charcoal briquette and mixed it up with the wood, and I think that helped give that "authentic" taste.

Had one like you have. Went through two because the control panel died on both. Now have a wood burner, a little more work but tastes better and no control panel to kill.

Wood chips or sawdust that have been soaked .
It must have a pan to put them.
depending on machine you may have to get the chips going with a torch. Blazer butane or propane torch.
Friends smoker has a tilt out for the wood chips and not much smoke unless you get it started.
Wood smoke liquid in marinade also works .
Good rub which I think you have.
Keep temp low and cook at 200 -220 for long time resupplying wood chips and water pan so meat does not dry out.
Meat should fall off the bones and come apart when "pulled".
Many different techniques for different purposes.
Fish goes much faster.
