Who uses a recipe? You simply boil 1 or 2 qts of water and drop in 1 or 2 family sized tea bags (1 bag per qt). Let it sit for a few hours, then add sugar to taste.

Re: Best ice tea recipe........
My family is from a little further south than here, as in North Carolina and Tennessee
Here is the way my father taught me to make it. 8 Individual tea bags placed in two quarts of cold water and brought to a boil. As soon as the boil begins count to 30 and remove from heat, squeeze the bags. Place in one gallon container, add one-ish cups of sugar (splenda works too but not the other stuff) and cold water to complete the gallon.
As far a bags go he was a Lipton man, I myself was on the Luzianne side of things until I visited Charleston, SC awhile back. Located there is the last functioning tea plantation in the United States and they grow from heirloom plants. Several establishments in Charleston brew with their tea (see Dixie Supply Bakery) and I was hooked immediately. You can buy it under the name American Classic Tea on Amazon, ain't cheap but it is good.
Enjoy!

8 tea bags in 2 quarts of water, bring to boil, remove from heat once it boils or it'll get bitter.
1 cup of sugar mixed in to 2 quarts of warm water, pour in tea, mix.
Serve warm over tall glass of ice

You guys that mix water in with the tea must like it watered down. To me, if you can see well through a clear glass of tea then it's too weak. As to using the individual tea bags - that works but you can save by using the big family sized bags. Much cheaper. My family averages about a qt a day.

In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

Big glass jug with lid. Tea bags of your choice, (green or black), fill with water, put it in the sun. Let it steep in the sun, the not boiling gives it a smoother flavor. Add sweetener if you wish.

Flor de Cana looks tasty. Still need the rest to bring it up to speed. The L.I. Ice tea needs multiple shots to make it work! Full auto etc. ![He He [smilie=011.gif]](./images/smilies/011.gif)

A few HOURS?Doyle wrote:Who uses a recipe? You simply boil 1 or 2 qts of water and drop in 1 or 2 family sized tea bags (1 bag per qt). Let it sit for a few hours, then add sugar to taste.
You must like bitter tea with brown sludge in the bottom of the pitcher.
After 10 minutes, you've gotten your moneys worth out of those tea bags.

Yea, I usually let it sit for longer than necessary. If you can see through a glass of tea then it isn't real tea - just "colored water".
