Anyone on here brew their own beer?

Post by Brandon H. » Sat Feb 09, 2013 12:28 am

Just got my first beer brewing kit, its the starter kit from Midwest Supplies. Looking for a good starter recipe, something for one fermenting barrel, I don't have a second carboy.

Right now I have this malt (Briess Gold)
http://www.midwestsupplies.com/briess-g ... tract.html

As well has Fuggles hops (1oz) and on other one I but I forgot the name. Also have the brewers yeast.

Anyone have suggestions? I still need grain and a few small things like the starting sugar and different hops.

Beer brewing comes out to be cheaper. You can find starter kits for around $50-75, and the ingredients to make the beer are around $30 or so to make 5 gallons from what I see. Looks to be a fun hobby. Should make great gifts. Kind of like reloading, I'm saving bottles [smilie=021.gif]

I looked into brewing beer but it sounded like it could be a real challenge in South Florida.

I have an entire home brew kit, unused, that I would be willing to let go for next to nothing (case of beer)

Includes bottles, bottler, ferment bucket, etc.

I have the ingredients as well but doubt they're still good.

I may take you up on that offer the next time I'm in that area (should be planning a Disney trip soon). I need the bottles, and my brother in law could use the kit.

Last year I bought a "Mr. Beer" beer making kit on sale at a local liquor store. It came with everything you need to make 2 gallons of beer which came out tasting a lot like Killian's Red. This kit is so stupid simple that they say if you can make mac & cheese out of a box you can brew beer. It is that easy.
I bought a couple of refill malt & yeast kits, a case of longneck bottles & caps from Amazon.com & did another batch. EasyPeasy.

And if your beer comes out bad, you can always distill it.

I had a bad batch of mead turned into some shine. The proof? I don't know, but high enough that you could clean your brakes with it. [smilie=011.gif]
