Good riddance
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

There's probably 100,000 hipoints sold per 1 hipower...just saying. Hipoints are big, ugly and heavy but they work, they're low priced and there's an obvious market for them.

While I love Hi Powers for what they are, I can't imagine there is enough of a market to sustain profitable manufacture. More importantly, there are enough of them out there for anyone who see's them as the "perfect carry gun."

Again? This is like the 3rd time the end of Hi-Power production has been announced.

It's kind of a shame that High Powers are gone.
They can be an excellent choice for some folks, especially those with small hands.
But the CZ75 is very similar and has the added feature of being both DA and SA and longer lasting.
Time marches on and the once venerated High Power is going the way of the buggy whip.

Hipower thought they'd stay relevant by churning out the same old design for decades. They were wrong.

When stacked against a 1911, I could see somebody going with a Hi Power. I could carry one and feel perfectly at ease. But I'm one of those people who believes if you can't shoot a Hi Power, 1911 or a S&W 17 then you probably can't shoot anyway.

I've always found the Hi Power cult to actually be pretty knowledgeable. You have to know a lot about handguns to even want to carry a Hi Power, there are definitely easier choices.

I was almost going to mention the CZ75, but as much as I like the DA/SA option, the Hi Power has a much better trigger. But again, I'd be cool with either, especially the current SP01 CZ series.

I love my Hipower. But it’s a big gun for carry. I wish there were more 9mm single action alternatives.
...and they think I'm compensating for something?

I brought the Hi Power clone, FEG PJK. Much cheaper, looks the same and came with a nice finish. Only safety feature the Hi Powers have is the half cocked position.

So what's that lever at the rear of the slide?

Only works in the half cocked position. [smilie=011.gif]

I have a Hi-Power Mk III that I shot in IDPA ESP class and carried daily in a IWB holster for couple years. It was originally acquired for my wife as her range gun along with a Colt LW Commander in 9mm. For someone with small hands it's the most comfortable double column pistol around. With a slim Navidrex micarta grip it fit her hand very well and found it to be comfortable shooter and plenty accurate. When used with a good 13 round magazine (Browning and Meg-Gar) and quality factory ammo (including JHP) my wife and I never had a failure of any kind so it is reliable too. For 20+ years I carried a cocked and locked 1911 so operating a Hi-Power felt natural. One thing that I really liked about Hi-Power was that it would point natually at target very quickly...pistol would just automatically come up to the target. With the combined speed of cocked and locked carry with natually pointing characteristics and low recoil of 9mm cartridge allowed for some very fast and accurate shooting. Hi-Power does have some negative characteristics too like excessive weight by today's standard, poor trigger pull, low capacity for high capacity pistol and older models had small sights, small/flat thumb safety and were not reliable with JHP ammo.
While I no longer carry a Hi-Power (J frame or Glock 19) I still like them still shoot them occasionally. I appreciate the design and how good they feel in my hand despite being 80+ year sold. I'm glad I still have one in the safe and I will likely never sell it.
