This Guy Has Been Circling Over My AO For a While

Post by TC6969 » Sun May 06, 2018 7:24 pm

I've been living in Central Florida since 1961, and I've never seen a Swallow Tailed Kite.

How about you guys?

I used to see them in Lakeland when we lived there. Got quite a few pictures during sun n fun. We lived about half mile south of runways. Used to sit on roof to film the thunderbirds or blue angels. Saw kites a lot there. Beautiful birds.

Yes, we see them all the time in Longwood and in Astor! Beautiful birds, are they eating bugs as normal swallows do?

There was one circling around the house today, I thought it was an osprey or something.

Moved to Tampa in 1983 never saw one until 2002 when we bought a piece of land in Venus(southern Highlands county). See them there every year and in multiples. Lived here in in Brandon since 1991 and started seeing them here about 4-5 years ago now every spring they are here.
When people ask me "do your dogs bite?", I tell them of course my dogs bite, all dogs bite. The question should be will your dogs bite me?

I was out at Titusville Pistol and Rifle range yesterday and one was up. Pretty birds.

The timing was perfect! I took my boys hog hunting on Saturday out towards Arcadia and there was one floating around in the sky. I didn’t know what she was...of course my 10 year old wanted to shoot it but I reminded him he had to eat his kill and he quickly changed his mind.

I have 2 in my back yard, if you watch them long enough, they barely ever flap their wings, that forked tail is amazing

I watched one cruise, then climb 50 or more feet and level off then turn and circle and climb again without ever flapping his wings.

they are pussies compared to Hawks tho, Ive seen crows run them off where a hawk will assault
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

I was surprised to see one last week circling over the plaza at Caracol - a semi-restored Mayan city in western Belize. Our guide said that they are seasonal migratory birds to that area.
and some rin up hill and down dale, knapping the chucky stanes to pieces wi' hammers, like sae mony road-makers run daft - they say it is to see how the warld was made!

I was out by Myakka City the other day and saw one gliding around. Cool birds. Also saw a couple Caracara's perched on fence posts, hadn't seen any of those in quite a while.
