Drugs

Post by jwillgym » Tue Mar 13, 2018 10:08 am

I was just thinking of all the money that the U.S, spends on it's anti drug policy. The question is why? I see movies of when opium etc., were not controlled or illegal. What caused the government to get involved in controlling drugs and do you think it is a good thing they did?

The government got involved in the 20's and 30's.

personally, I think it's a waste of money. People should be free to ingest whatever they want, as long as they don't bother others.

They got involved with drugs right after alcohol prohibition ended. They needed something for all those new prohibition government employees to do now that they didn’t have alcohol prohibition to give them work. Part of it also had to do with a treaty with China over the opium trade, China had a big opium problem they were trying to combat so the rest of the world had to make it illegal too.

+1 to that. It allows natural selection to take its course IMHO.

Yea well there's the issue. Bothering others is a common habit of those who are impaired.
Including killing over 10,000 people per year by impaired drivers alone.

Of which alcohol is the biggest culprit.

That, and all the theft crimes from folks who need money to finance their supply.

That answer would depend on who you ask, but yes it is. Alcohol is a legal drug though and this topic is about drugs that are illegal and why. The point being that is DUI was tea the reason most drugs were illegal then alcohol would still be illegal also.
