Seattle Washington....

Post by neverenoughguns » Sat Mar 03, 2018 10:59 pm

I have recently been informed that I will be spending time in Seattle this summer and am looking for suggestions as to things to do while we are there. Thinking about the Boing tour. Any other suggestions?

I've only been there once. I think I did only two touristy things... visit Pike Place Market, and the Space Needle.

Funny... I recall there being a lot of touristy T-Shirt/Sweatshirt shops where you can get your name embossed on the back of the garment in sticky letters that get pressed on by the hot press. If you do that, DON'T EVER TELL THEM THAT THE GARMENT IS FOR A MINOR... especially a "single digit" minor. They'll refuse to do it. Their reason being : Having the child's name on the back of a garment is a security (kidnapping) risk... A little "nannyish" perhaps, but they don't want to incur the liability...

Go up to Vancouver, like a 2.5 hour drive.

Take the ferry to Victoria (I took it from Vancouver). We saw whales, and seals, etc.

Very beautiful area.

Also, Hurricane ridge:

I always took the Ferry ride over, great:

If you have time after Hurricane Ridge, go over to the coast:

Its a great region to visit in the summer. Depending on the amount of time you have:

Pike Place Market, Space Needle, boeing field, boeing factory tour (not at boeing field. up north about 20 miles).
Visit the Ballard Locks and the salmon ladder, Center for Wooden Boats (exhibits, rent a sailboat)
Ferry ride over to Gig Harbor for lunch/dinner.
Weekend via ferry into San Juan islands, by foot, car or mountain bike
Visit Mount Rainier, drive up and stay at Paradise lodge for a night.
Ferry to Victoria/Vancouver. Lots to do for a weekend at either city.

Have fun and enjoy the trip.

Homeless is a huge issue in downtown Seattle. Space needle is a huge tourist trap. Yeah, don’t care for the town.

I have no choice in the destination, it is a family trip due to reasons beyond my control. I am just looking for interesting things to do so The space needle and fish market are on our list as is Boing Field and a baseball game.

There's an ongoing attempt to turn it into San Francisco North. Aside from that BS it's a nice tourist destination. +1 on all the recommendations.

TBH, I did see some of the homeless near the Pike Place Market, even 10-15 years ago when I was there.

Funny you mentioned "San Francisco North." As it turns out, the city of Port Townsend (north of Seattle, west of Whidbey Island) was supposed to be "San Francisco North" and would have been if the train had continued up that way. Lots of "hippie" types living there (or used to live there). It is the town where "An Officer & A Gentleman" was filmed in 1982.
