Parachute info needed.

Post by better2have&notneed » Sun Feb 18, 2018 2:21 pm

I got a parachute today...there's not a lot of info coming up on google.
From what I've found it's a B-47 drag chute.
Anybody know anything about these??

Printed on the end of it:
deployment bag p/n d-113
boeing spec 10-845-3
airplane model no. b-47
mfg. dec 1956
mat. nylon
fist ribbon chute
m. steinthal & co., inc n.y.c.
p/n c-170 assy.
serial no 2322

Worthless. The materials deteriorate and simply will tear. A B-47 is ancient. I'm former USAF.

In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

Keep it out of sunlight, fluorescent light. Nylon deteriorates quickly if it doesn't have UV protection, literally falls apart. I recon it's a Cold War collectible, but I'm not sure who'd be interested in it.
I swear by Jupiter Optimus Maximus .... in the army of the consul Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus and for 10 miles around it I will not steal anything worth more than a sestertius in any one day.

It's still packed, like rents butt...I wasn't planning on using it, but you never know. I was really just wondering about it's usage, like pulling the landing gear out or slowing the plane down. Anyway I think it's neat and will only use it in a mission impossible type situation.

They were used to slow the aircraft on landing. Landing speed was high and the engines did not have thrust reversers. The idea was to reduce the load on the brakes which, if they failed would result in a bent aircraft, which usually results in an angry CO and lots of paperwork.

Its not for skydiving. it is a chute designed to slow the b47 aircraft. should be spring loaded if it is still there.

I wasn't in the air-force, but I have jumped once or twice

Parachutes: don’t leave planes without ‘em!
Ain’t ever been in a situation desperate enough to want to leave a perfectly good airplane in mid-flight.
True story,
The End.
