Bad week for buying

Post by Cardboard_killer » Sun Feb 04, 2018 11:09 am

It's been a heck of a week for buying stuff. First, I get sick and completely forget to meet someone last Thursday, and he had to drive a distance to find out I was too sick to make it--I felt like a real heel doing that to the poor guy. I'll make it up to him, but it still sucks to have to make it up to him.

Then, today, I was to meet someone some miles from my home and got halfway there and had a tire blow out while I was passing someone at 70 mph, forcing the seller to drive another ten miles to meet me. Luckily I didn't panic and put the car in a ditch, and my brother was able to come by with his good jack and we changed the tire in just a few minutes. Well, he did most of the work and I'm still fighting the cold.

It could be worse; it could have been raining.

No, this tire was split down the sidewall, it was gonzo. I probably could have changed it fast enough to get to the randevous five or ten minutes late, except I am fat, old and getting over the flu. Plus those spares are donut tires, and I don't want to do 65+mph down 39 on one of them. They should be banned, although they are a lot less weight to carry around, saving you money on gas.

Trying to decide if I should replace one, two or all four tires and what tires I should replace them with. I have cheaper than dirt Walmart tires on them now, as I was out of work when I got them and needed them in a hurry. Now, I'm working, and working close to home so I have time to decide what to buy and then order them. I need tires for a 2011 Camry--P215/60R16

The current ones were 40k miles, and I have about 25k on them. Decent tread left, but the performance was poor, so I wouldn't mind seeing them all go. I could buy two and then buy two more next time I rotate them. Or I can just by all fourand not have to worry about returning and gettng new ones.

Or I could get one used tire and leave them on until the next flat. I used to do that in my old VW when I was young and broke all the time. I don't drive that often long distance, and I am cheap enough that I can live with it.
