Suggested material for gun storage?

Post by 870Mike » Fri Jan 26, 2018 12:24 am

I'm building a set of hidden drawers for pistol storage ala "Mr & Mrs Smith", and don't want to line with foam, as it has left marks on some guns in the past.

Felt? :-k

Purple velour
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

When I made new shelves for my gun safe I used fabric batting and fabric from Joann's. You could do the same with fiberboard.

Do you think the material used in tool boxes would work? My biggest concerns would be the finish of the pistols. You don’t want something that will wick the protective oil off of the metal.

I'm thinking that's in the same family as the foam. It's rubberized, which could react with oils & metal.

A permanent built in might be better.
If the table is too attractive, thieves might take the whole thing.
Just a thought.
I've had good luck with wrapping well oiled guns in silicone soaked cotton cloth.

there are smooth plastic liners that go in tool boxes..kinda like foam but only 1/8 thick black plastic stuff. wont take the oil off or leave a mark but not very attractive.
im the other gary...

this ^^^

its kinda like a black plastic soft foam liner, any kind of fabric will wick the oil away from the gun, remember to use darker colors because oil always seems to seep out and ruin fabric, yellow oil always looks like a pee stain if you ask me. My gun show table cloths are hunter green polyester I can spill water on them and it beads up, I have a few oil spots but can't expect the world when you putting guns on it every other weekend

Not gonna happen. This thing is going to weigh a ton...and my alarm will be waking the dead from the cemetery at the end of the street.

Good idea. Didn't think of the obvious. I wonder if it's available in rolls.

That stuff looks great, kind of what some mouse pads are made of.
What new gun my dear, this old thing?
