Just bought an as-new FNX-45 and want to turn it into a poor-man's tactical mdl. Got a good deal on a SS threaded barrel.
After installing the barrel, I'm now wondering if there's too much going on with all the different colors (FDE, black & stainless)? Should I blacken the barrel?

gold plate that barrel.
there is not too much going on till you add a light,, RMR, bayo lug and all the other crap.
I think the tactical carry pieces of today was the AR with all the BS hanging off of it 10 years ago
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

It's better to look tactical than to be tactical...

Looks good. Looks like my springfield XD’s in OD green frame, black slide and stainless threaded barrel. Looks even better with the Octane 45 on it.

Why, doesn't match your lingerie?
I think the stainless barrel would actually look off if the slide and frame weren't two different colors, but I think it works here.

It looks fine as it. If it really bothers you, try some Alumahyde and test if it will take on the SS to blacken it.

Was thinking more along the lines of a cold blue.

The standard cold bluing chemicals won’t do an acceptable job on stainless steel. Coatings like duracoat will many times bind up the barrel in the slide so you’ll need to carefully fit it. You can hot blue stainless but that’s not a home process.

If it had a suppressor on how much of the chrome would you see? Keep it as it is!

It'll be fine if you gold-plate the suppressor.

As long as you like it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I like it though :)

I like the two-tone look, black slide and fde frame. I would just get the barrel redone. I had Brazen Firearms do one for me and they did a great job. They have a carbon black TiN coating which has worked well for me.
