Martin Landau Dead at 89

Postby gforester » Mon Jul 17, 2017 10:14 am

Well, there goes another one. Seems stars from the 50's and 60's are dropping like flies. RIP Martin.

Martin Landau, the chameleon-like actor who gained fame as the crafty master of disguise in the 1960s TV show "Mission: Impossible," then capped a long and versatile career with an Oscar for his poignant portrayal of aging horror movie star Bela Lugosi in 1994's "Ed Wood," has died. He was 89.

He was great in a lot of other things, too--as a Soviet spy in North By Northwest; the ophthalmologist who has his mistress hit in Crimes and Misdemeanors; the professor in Rounders. Always enjoyed him.

RIP, sir.

And, of course, "Space 1999." Oddly enough, who took Landau's place on Mission Impossible after he left?

Answer: Leonard Nimoy, as "Paris" the magician.

RIP

Seriously, you guys really care about actors and singers dying ???

They never cared about you alive and most of them used their fame to work against our gun rights.

Are you as charming and interesting in real life as you are here?

If it makes you feel better, I promise not to care when you croak.

Forgot how entertaining Mr. Landau was as Bela Lugosi in "Ed Wood", now I have a reason to watch the movie again!

I guess you can call it caring in some sort of way. I see it as these people were a small part of our lives as actors or musicians in many of our pasts, hearing about them dying brings back good and bad memories to many of us.

It also brings the realization that WE are the next in line. The difference is most of us will pass without fanfare and maybe just a line or two in a local papers obituary section.

Back to Landau, I thoght he was a good actor too, I liked Mission Impossible and I really don't care what side of gun rights he was on. If that be the case you might as well shut off all forms of entertainment, movies, music, news etc. cause most all of them don't like guns.

Unlike Jane Fonda or Sean Penn, Landau never shoved idiotic politics in my face. Therefore I don't care about his politics, whatever they were. But he did entertain the hell out of me across several decades.

I wasn't complaining. I am glad that you won't care. I don't want you to care? I don't want anyone to care. My life is over, then let's forget I even existed. This is my philosophy.

But apparently you have failed, given your trollery in this thread. Try harder, sir.

Yeah--I'm the one who stumbled into an in memoriam thread and then, utterly ineptly, tried to turn into some kind of half-assed political rant--which was welcomed by no one, if you didn't notice.

I know how you work. I won't fall into that trap. When someone resorts to insults, it is usually because he has nothing else to say.

You came into this thread insulting us. Feel free to leave the same way.
