Scope/Warm Barrel Question

Post by D_GUNNER » Tue Apr 19, 2016 5:00 pm

I have a Marlin 336c in 35Rem,with a Weaver K-6 fixed power scope. And the first scope was sent back to Weaver, for drifting low and left more with every shoot. Now I'm on my 2nd scope replaced by Weaver. And its doing it too

Now its doing it again could this be from the barrel warming up it does get pretty hot!!! [smilie=014.gif]

Its the group circled in yellow

Why have you overruled the accuracy gets worst as the barrel heats up :-k
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

If you had the same issue before, it's obviously not the scope. First thing that I would do is to check the action screws and make sure that the action is torqued into the stock to factory specs. Next, I'd take off the scope and shoot it with irons to see what happens. Good luck! [smilie=cheers1.gif]
and some rin up hill and down dale, knapping the chucky stanes to pieces wi' hammers, like sae mony road-makers run daft - they say it is to see how the warld was made!

It does sound like more of mount than a scope problem, unless the manufacturer happened to have an entire run of faulty scopes.
There's other causes, too, other than the scope.
Try checking everything over for each and ever shot, instead of doing groups.
And look for consistency with the problem.
If the results are repeatable, even bad ones, that can help find the problem.

Thanks for the replies.

After about 60 rounds of ammo with only about 100 rounds left I have to give up.

I still have a Marlin 444S to scope that just might get a peep sight =:wvr

Your POI wanders due to the barrel heating up, expanding in length and binding with the fore-stock and barrel band.

I have almost the same results with my 336c. Drifting towards 2:00 unless the barrel is allowed to cool completely.

60 rounds through a skinny barrel and you're upset over a 2" drop? How far were you shooting?

That was only after 3 rounds 25 yds that group circled in yellow the other group is from a model 70. 60 rounds total through the barrel over a stretch of a few years.
