looking to reach out into the dark....

Post by dieselbeef » Sat Sep 27, 2014 7:28 pm

I need something to give me some light for a 100 yds or so at least. I have been looking into it and most guys seem to think green is best for yotes or dogs or hogs at night.
thinkin im gonna put it on my ar and ill need a scope as well. something to make a head shot ez at at least 100 yds or better.

school me cuz I know dick bout scopes and even less bout shooting in the dark.

recent ranch happenings as of late have got me further exploring options.
don't want a laser but what I need is a good invisible to animals light with a scope that will work well in conjunction

In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

this comp is fuked rent so I cant see the pics

I wasn't really looking fo night vision. I had some bino's and had a lot of issues with the lights around here blacking them out.

I was thinking more of a scope and some kind of light like a streamlight flashlight but in green. rail mounted that would be on/off switched and not visible to the animal

and then a good scope for the ar. mine has a integrated carry handle on it tho..that's gonna make it a pita aint it. its a basic gi rifle...a1 I think it is

Just use green LED flashlight mounted to the rifle and rifle scope with illuminated scope.
You can't just point it and light up the animal as they'll get spooked by the shadow. What you do is turn it on pointed above the animal and then slowly lower it to where animals are located. Even before you point directly at them you'll see the animal from the outer edge of the light. I use Elusive Wildlife light but there are a lot of other cheaper versions that work well too. Check out those sites bfips posted above.

For a scope a illuminated scope is a BIG help even with LED light. Green LED light with red reticle is gives good contrast so is fast to pick up. I use a Bushnell 1.5-6X44mm Trophy scope like this one on one of my rifle.

http://www.bushnell.com/hunting/rifle-s ... 4a-reticle#

If you are interested in trying one of these scope let me know. I have a spare one you can try to see if they work for you. Better to try one out before spending money to make sure it's what you need.

I also have this....

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_7_21/13435 ... C15_1.html

so...

I found a bayonet lug rail for the dpms so at least I can mt the light. single handle rail for the scope mount.

the s/w has a flattop with a tri rail.

the sw has a crappy leapers scope on it tho...ugt 6x32 ill reticle ...it works good but I have my doubts as to durability.

the smith just seems like too much to drag around so im working on the dpms...it weighs a ton.

and with the awesomeness of rug and boom boom I think I shall soon have what I need..and a clue what I need as well.

ill be killing some s';t soon..i swear im gonna chase em down in my underwear if I gotta to kill em soon...I gotta git some sleep.

Bill and Chae may chime in here later, however for now I'll say that we're glad that we could be of some assistance and help you out. I'll talk to you soon, I hope you and your family enjoyed the day together, today.
