Shooting from a Boat

So a couple friends and I are going boating soon and would like to do some skeet shooting from the boat. Is there anyone that could help me clarify the legality of this?

I called the local police department today was told that yes, it's legal. Just wanted to verify what he told me. How far out do you have to be...etc?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks! /:f

You trying to "loose" your guns on a "boating accident"? :-k [smilie=011.gif]

If you are out in salt water, you'll be OK as long as you are away from land (assuming you aren't in a place like Pinellas cty that thinks they have special jurisdiction over all the water in the county). If you are on a lake or river, that's another matter. For one thing, shooting on a lake this time of year is liable to attract the attention of the game warden whom you'll have to convince you aren't duck hunting.

I once saw a boat duck hunting on Sarasota bay.... It was rather curious...

I'm sorry I should have clarified. This will be on the Gulf of Mexico.

The problem with Pinellas cty isn't on the gulf side - it is on the bay side. Some of the inland waters used to be good duck hunting spots until the cty decided it didn't want any shooting there.

I remember reading something about going out to international waters with NFA stuff and it being an issue to bring it back in ??

So is it 3 or 12 miles?

If I'm understanding it correctly then >3 miles is federal and >12 milles is international?
