Tax Day Postal Match - rimfire

Post by ipscscott » Sat Mar 19, 2011 1:12 pm

OK, since I've been a slacker on the last couple and not shot them, I'll post one up and shoot it and then none of you guys can so I'll learn my lesson. [smilie=pdt_xtremez_13.gif]

Anyway, this one is easy. =:wvr

Pick your favorite rimfire gun and shoot the star out.

Pistol or rifle, your choice. Separate categories for optics or iron sights. Fifty rounds maximum at a distance of 20 feet.

Just like the carnival game, try to shoot out the star. And before you ask, no you can't just cut the target in half (RentProp!).
The one with the least amount of red showing wins. If it's not abundantly clear who has more or less red showing, the winner will be decided by Legio (I just volunteered him, but he doesn't know it yet [smilie=033.gif] ).

Now, here's the real fun part - I'm donating a prize for the winner. I'm not going to tell what it is yet, but I promise it'll be worth more than $20.

All entries must be submitted no later than midnight April 14th!

PDF targets sized for 8.5x11 paper can be found here:
Color: http://www.2atees.com/images/FSN_April_ ... _color.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Black: http://www.2atees.com/images/FSN_April_ ... _black.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Woo hoo! This looks like fun!!

Ya'll don't worry, Mrs Onree doesn't have a 22 and she hates my Buckmark. [smilie=011.gif]

so why is there an option to print it in black if you are gonna count how much RED is showing ??

is this a trick ?? :-k
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

I printed out the black one & suddenly realized there is not one speck of red showing anywhere. What did I win? [smilie=011.gif]

Seriously, this looks like a good one! I need to get to the range again soon anyway.

Actually, I'm going to photoshop them all into green before the judging. :ham'r

I forgot one other thing: should I insist that all shots should be fired offhand?

Got to go out plinking with my friend Katt today and we tried the star target. What a beautiful day to be at the range! _:
She got to shoot full-auto for the first time ever today, and I got to play with a couple guns I haven't shot in quite a while. We were only out for a couple hours, but I forgot to put on sunscreen, so my arms and neck are a little pink. [smilie=021.gif]

I hauled out my very first .22 rifle, an old JC Higgins semi that my Dad gave me and used it for the iron-sighted run. Dang, that was fun! I probably haven't shot that rifle since I moved out of my parents' house many moons ago. Very glad I got it out and not just another 10/22. I think I did fairly well on this one:

Then we both used my GSG-5 SBR for the optics run. I let her shoot first, and then I discovered that the red dot sight was a little off. [smilie=011.gif] I just applied a little Kentucky windage and didn't bother adjusting the site because we were ready to pack it up for the day.

We were pretty evenly matched on this one, but I only used 49 rounds (had 1 dud and too lazy to stuff another round it), so that's my excuse.

Her target:

Mine:

I can't decide who's closer, so I'll leave it up to you guys to weigh in. I overlayed them in photoshop.

Much fun was had by all, and the gauntlet has been thrown. Who's next? =:e

BTW, if anyone needs me to host their scanned target photos, just email them to me.

Scott, I forgot to give you these targets when I saw you last. #-o

This match was a bit harder for me. Normally I'm trying for the smallest group, where here a larger group was needed. Anyhow, here's what I was able to do with my Buckmark UDX.

An alright group, just too tight.

Other than the damn flyers, not too bad.

Good point. We should extend it to the 18th so you can shoot it this weekend.

I expect we'll see an entry from you now. [smilie=pdt_xtremez_30.gif]

Last chance! I'm scoring it tomorrow and declaring myself "super champion winner uber king overall for the week" . Either that or maybe just "Funkmaster S" [smilie=pdt_xtremez_13.gif]

OK, I finally made it to the range. This was harder than I though it was going to be but here's my targets.

I actually got worse on the 2nd target but what the hell. I got to the range, I had a good time & the house was quiet all afternoon because the wife hates the smell of Hoppes9. [smilie=011.gif]

How about a new postal match?
Here's one that's suitable for any gun, from an airgun at home to a center fire rifle at 100 yds.

Save The Hostage.
It simulates a hostage situation.

The target is just two circles, of the same diameter, placed so they are touching, side to side - one is a No Shoot, the hostage.
To help with identification, they can be different colors, or the no shoot can have an X through it, or anything else that works.
The only variable will be their size, depending on gun choice and distance.
All shots will be free standing, no supports of any kind.
For handgun:
At ten yards the circles are 1.5" diameter.
At 25 yards, they are 4" diameter.
At 50 yds, they are 8" diameter.
For rifles:
At 25 yards, they are 2" diameter.
At 50 yards, they are 4" diameter.
At 100 yards, they are 8" diameter.
If these distances aren't doable, use whatever you like, just adjust the target sizes accordingly.

Caliber doesn't matter, nor does sights.
Just use whatever will do the job, just like real life.
Five shots on each target.
Hits count 1, hits on the NO Shoot are minus 2.
Do them all for a complete match or just the ones you want.
More bragging rights for the longer ones.

Anyone interested?
