FSN Watermelon Battle Rifle Postal Shoot June 1-15 2008

So lets start enjoying the summer heat by shooting some watermelons. This shoot is for fun and no prize will be awarded.

Rules are:

No supports of any kind (no bipods/rests/leaning).
No optics with magnification (1X red dots OK).
15 rounds max @ 50yrds- 150pts max per target. No time limit (needed to accommodate certain Nazi ranges)
Weapon must be a battle rifle -- any caliber is OK.
Hits touching ring get the higher point.
Shooters need not shoot every position. Positions are noted on the bottom of the targets and include standing, kneeling, sitting and prone.
A "Top Shooter" for each position will be selected.
Shoot as many targets as you like and submit your best.
Targets must be posted on FSN no latter then June 15th at 11:59PM.
ETA: Slings are OK and can be used as support.

Here is the PDF: http://www.cwlmiami.com/fsnpostalshoots ... nShoot.pdf

Make sure to print it with scaling turned off on a 8.5x11 paper.

Sample Target:

Here are examples of 3/4 shooting positions for the newer shooters among us. Use any variation you like but just make sure to not use a rest or lean on anything:

Missing is the sitting position ... Shoot it any of the variations you want including sitting on a chair if you need to. Just make sure to not use a rest or lean on anything.

As always this shoot if for fun and we make exceptions. The main rule is you MUST have fun!

Definitely -- If it or a close variant of it was used in a war -- Its a battle rifle. If it was designed for military use, or is a variant / civilian version of a rifle designed for military use, its a combat rifle.

How about a Brown Bess? (replica.)

And should I tape my target to an actual watermelon?

Its a bonified Battle Rifle ...
And should I tape my target to an actual watermelon?
I would love to see that -- but its not required and I think it may be difficult to read your score on the target if you do.

Anyone know if an AUG was ever used in battle? Or was it only used by terrorists on Die Hard?

Its a weapon used by the Aussies as well as several other countries and even our own Homeland Security Dept.. The Aussies are relying on it in the current "war on terrorism" in Afghanistan and Iraq. So your good to go ... except ... do you have one with a magnifier? I know they are integrated and many come that way --- but --- hmmmmmmmm ... I guess we can create a category just for Augs because I dont know of any other rifle that comes with a integrated magnified optic.

Mine (STG-556) is a 1.5x optic, I was going to shoot it just for fun anyway and not for score since it is magnified. Although I think I might not be able to shoot it anyway, since I found out I need to head out of town this weekend.

Just shoot it anyway ... Who cares -- if you have the best score we will just nag the mods till they ban you [smilie=pdt_xtremez_13.gif] .

WAIT -- Your not to far from me -- Why don't you meet me around 5pm Thursday at Trail Glades and we can do the shoot together. Ive wanted to shoot one of those for some time now. Ill pay your entrance to TG.

I would but Thursday is my flight, I'm looking to see if I will have time to go Wednesday evening and shoot the pistol and rifle match but who knows. I think I will shoot the rifle match with my AUG for fun and my AK or M1 carbine for "score".

Shot it tonight, scored about 45. [smilie=012.gif] I used an AR-15, first time shooting that rifle and that style of gun. Will post the target once I get it scanned in the morning.

EDIT: Added target. I forgot to write thes score on it. AR-15, .223, 45 points total

I shot all 4 positions tonight and did horrible ... I was having a little bit of back trouble and shot it without warm-up and at times in pain. I fired my 10.5 SBR AR without sling and topped off with a YHM Phantom. I may go back out again and try this one more time.

Prone: 96/150
Sitting: 81/150
Kneeling: 30/150
Standing: 32/150

here they go ...
