Brown St. Patrick's Day instead of Green

Post by Capt_Jerry »

Yesterday was opening day of turkey season in my area. I was out at o'dark-thirty and ready as I put the gang to bed on Friday night and was where I thought I needed to be on Saturday morning. Well they came down and of course out of range. I spent the day with no shots.

To celebrate St. Patrick's Day I decided to move my position this morning about 30 yards to what I thought was a better position. About 10:30 AM some hens came out to the field followed by a gobbler. The hens went back into cover and the gobbler followed. Shortly the gobbler came back out about 30 yards from my position. My old Remington 2 3/4" 1100 with #5 shot and a 30" full choke barrel did the job.

Happy Brown Day!

Nice job!
Good for you for getting out there and doing it.
I’m down in South so I have until April 6 to get one this year.
Do you have Osceola up your way?

Yes, that is what I shot. Here's a better picture of the tail fan.

Here is the finished mount. Used a kit from Taxidermist Woodshop ( http://www.taxidermistwoodshop.com/ ). I have used their mounts for deer and have been pleased as I am with this turkey mount kit.
