A lot of guys in extended prison stays usually get religious and thus more conservative, and there's also the assumption that a lot of them will even bother to vote at all.

So what gives with all the sensationalism about felons being able to vote in FL now?
Because in FL, being a felon sucks. You're barred from a number of professional business licenses. You have a rap sheet that limits your employment opportunities. Thus, a number of then rely on welfare to survive. Welfare that Democrats push and Republicans attack.

Statistically, felons vote Democrat.
Can you show me an accredited source for that, statistically? Not trying to put you on the spot, just want to read it for my own education.

Sorry for another derailment; Are ex-felons all that interested in politics/voting?

Um, no, they're not. From the first article linked above:
But despite recent moves in states to notify convicts that they can vote again, the study finds little evidence that they do, undercutting Democratic efforts to get them to the polls.
Like teaching pigs to dance - the hard thing is motivating them to do it on their own.

In my opinion, felons as voters are statistically insignificant and we shouldn't waste our time & energy worrying about them. Instead, we need to focus on 2 groups - young voters and immigrants. If we don't make significant changes in our message and effectively communicate that message to them, we are burnt toast.

While I agree the focus needs to be on young people and immigrants (and their offspring), we just had 3 statewide recounts, two of them so close we had to go to manual recounts. Toss in Bush/Gore, and you can see that even a smallish turnout by Democratic leaning felons could affect races. We are talking about a shitload of felons in Florida.

Well, which is it?
Since apathy runs thru the entire population when it comes to politics, which I think is the plan both parties follow, because the parties are too much alike. As we have seen when former gun conservatives change overnight to gun grabbers.
Maybe all the ex-felons will get together to vote for the Criminal Protection Act banning guns?

Isn’t purple another shade of blue?
Because Florida is a swing state...and it’s only a matter of time before the big blue cities flip the whole state Democrat/Liberal.
The writing is on the wall and I’m planning accordingly. I won’t be living in Florida full-time when the Progressive/Socialist bastards take over. I’m voting with my feet.

If Florida goes blue, you can expect a steady stream of liberal Presidents. CA + FL + NY is pretty impossible to overcome in the electoral college.
