Bowling Pin Shoot

Post by ronsholsters » Wed Apr 03, 2013 2:14 pm

At Shooting Sports in Tampa on Dale Mabry (south of Waters Ave.) They have a bowling pin shoot
once a month for competition shooting and once a month for practice.

Two people see who can knock 5 pins down the fastest.

On the practice night, Their is no elimination, everybody shoots the same number of times.
.22 and 9mm is the most common ammo used, but you can use other calibers.

The next public practice night is on April 25, 2013. Sign up is at 6:30PM, Shooting starts at 7PM.
You must call the range and pre register. If enough people are not signed up by Apr 23, it will be canceled.
Need a minimum of 5 shooters to hold the event and there is a 9 person limit.

You can contact me for more information.

22 knocks down a standard bowling pin?? When I shot those, even a 9mm took some effort to knock the pins off a table.

Yes a .22 knocks down a bowling pin. The pin is placed on the rear edge of the
table if it is a .22 and it is placed at the center of the table if it is a 9mm.

Yeah we shoot pin tops with .22 but never the whole thing.

I usually use .45 since it is much more likely to take the pin off the table but we place them near the front.

Is that first come first serve ? Or is there a list you can get on to reserve a spot. Reason I am asking, I don't want to drive there and find out the spots are all filled.

A .22 will definitely knock the pins off the back of the table.
But they have to be hit either at the small top area, or lower down in the wider area, with double taps.
It depends on your speed and accuracy.
Great fun.
Too bad it's so far away from us.
It's a nice range, with good ventilation, and nice folks.
Lots of rental guns, too.

It is by reservation only, You have to call the range 813-933-3000 and have someone put
your name on the bowling pin practice sign up sheet. The first 9 people that sign up have
a spot. Then you need to call the night before the shoot to verify that it is still on.
If there is not a minimum of 5 people it will be canceled.

It use to fill up easily, but because ammo is hard to get right now, it has slowed down how
many people shoot.

If nine people show up, each person gets to shoot down the bowling pins 12 times.
That's 5 to 8 shots per time which could be aprox 100 rounds of ammo.
If one or two people no show, everyone gets to shoot one or two more times.

Cost is the range fee (I think it is $10.95 plus tax) if you are not a member.
And it is $8.50 if you are a member.

I agree that Sarasota is a long drive.

But if 3 or 4 people car pooled, it might still be worth it.

Come up and learn how we do it, then try to set one up down your way.

The public bowl pin shoot practice on April 25, 2013 has been canceled.

Only 4 people pre registered and we needed a minimum of 5.

I will post the next date for May as soon as it is scheduled.
