Ar15.com is doing pretty good
Ar15.com has an entire family of master level programmers maintaining that site, and they've spent 19 years building it up from a simple newsletter to what it is today.

Not a fair comparison at all.

The douchebag level there is extreme. So maybe it IS better suited to the complainers here.

Somehow my life goes on when FSN goes down. If it is otherwise for some people, well I feel sorry for them. Do I wish it worked 100% of the time? Sure. But c'mon, we are surfing for free on the back of somebody else's work. Shut up already.

80% of their general discussion bunch are illiterate drooling morons, but the tech side of the site is actually pretty good since they tolerate very little douchebagery. (I agree about the complainers possibly being happier over there! )

I didn't read all four pages so if it's already been asked I apologize - so what happened to cause the outage and, how can it be prevented ?
Actually, the final report is a firewall failure during a network change.

Now, I hesitate to say that I also need to upgrade to a new version of phpBB. I'll wait a little to do it.
