Even in the 1980's Woolworth on 163 street in North Miami Beach sold surplus rifles for low price. The sporting goods department manager was a very knowledgeable man name Bill Hill.

They were selling Swedish M96 Mauser from $69 to about $100
Chilean and K98 Mauser was less...started around $59
M1 Garand started around $190 and M1 carbine started around $200.

Most, if not all, rifles were from SAMCO (used to be off Palmetto near Doral).

I purchased many of these rifles along with plenty of cheap surplus ammo when I got out of high school and would go out to SR-27 to shoot on weekends.

I think Woolworth stopped selling surplus rifles around 1990.
