Background checks on private sales

Gun owners may complain it’s an unacceptable infringement on Second Amendment rights, but a proposal in the state Legislature that would mandate background checks on private gun sales simply makes sense.

The bill, from Democratic state Rep. Martha Good, of Sarasota, would require most private gun sales to be done in conjunction with a licensed firearms dealers, who would conduct background checks as if the gun were being purchased from a licensed shop. If a buyer fails the background check, the sale wouldn’t be allowed.

How are they going to enforce a B.S. law like that good luck. This is nothing but a means to track gun ownership. Period.

Of course it is. Of course you know we don’t have a gun registration law.... sarcasm off.

Some gun shows on city, or county property are already requiring this. They have plainclothes cops walking the crowd to enforce this. But a private sale between 2 people who may hook up on this forum can not be enforced, as there is no gun registration in Florida. GARY.

Only way they could really enforce it would be to stage stings at gunshows and on online forums to bust people who aren't doing it. It would be incredibly difficult to enforce, but would also be a hell of a risky proposition to not go through a dealer for law abiding citizen joe blow who doesn't want to risk going to jail over a background check he is going to pass anyway.

If it is a felony, and you are caught (and convicted), there go your guns (on top of any time/fine).

It would be a MAJOR deterrent once some "examples" are made.

How does that universal background check address the REAL problem gun owners?
You know who I mean, the folks with a long violent past with a conviction or two. They will get firearms the way they have been since 1968. Steal them, have a 'friend' buy some or borrow one from the gang's armory.
When will the gun grabbers come out? All there gun restrictions are just 'Workplace Safety' for criminals.

There will always be a black market for firearms as criminals don’t obey the laws anyway.

Agree. That's exactly how I think it would happen. They'll troll Armslist, FGT, here and set up stings. A lot safer than chasing the boys 'n the hood.
