I saw that before when I Googled it, but my numbers & letters don't correlate to anything on that chart. GARY

That's probably the reason for the disclaimer beneath the chart:
Using barrel codes (such as those listed above) to date the manufacture are reliable on Remington rifles, as the company rarely changed barrels on a customer's rifle.

Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random. One needs to be sure that the barrel is original to the gun before trusting the Barrel Code listing, above.
I had an older Remy 1100 that didn't match anything on the chart, either - probably had a barrel swap somewhere in its life.

You know, we have become so reliant on the internet, we don't use the telephone as much as we should. So I called Remington, gave them the ser #, & in 3 seconds the gal told me the gun was made in 1969. GARY

So right. I often get pissed when people on other forums complain that their E-mails to vendors/mfrs are not answered. WTF, just call them on the phone. In the case of this shotgun I was considering buying, the owner told me his dad had just given it to him, & had owned it since new. I certainly do not want to separate this fellow from a family heirloom. GARY

We have become too reliant on these devil boxes. Calling is how I found out the date my 1100 20ga LW was made after ordering the wrong barrel for it. Remington is very helpful. While I was on the phone with them I got the last LW barrel they had at the factory, a 30" full choke. That was about 30 years ago, they quit making the LW in 1976 and turned it into the LT.

There is a date code on the barrel,, usually remington barrels were changed frequently and is actually hard to date one using date codes..

Here are the date codes..
