Just bought a Mossberg 500 Persuader

Post by Deputydave » Sat Dec 15, 2012 3:54 pm

Just bought one at Dick's Sporting Goods today, pick it up next Thursday. I use (and teach) the Remington 870 at work, but really liked the Mossberg when I saw/held it. The safety and slide bar release are located differently but that shouldn't be that big of an issue after some practice.

This struck me as a well made shotgun and Mossberg seems to have a fine reputation.

If you have one, or have had one I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Many thanks :ber

I have one and it works fine. The action isn't as nice as my x-police 870 wingmaster, but both are good shotguns.

I don't have a 500 any more but it was a great shotgun. It was a Cruiser. Never had a problem. I now have a 930 SPX and love it.

Change the safety to a metal one, if it doesn't already come that way.
If it has the plastic one, it will fail, sooner or later, and can lock up the trigger mechanism.
The trigger group has to be removed to do it, and there's small detent parts and spring, so it's not an in field fix.
Best done on a bench.
The metal version is cheap and available from all the usual sources.
Here's a youtube video on how to do it and possibly without having to remove the trigger group - maybe:

I drove past Shoot Straight on Southern and they have them for $299.00 Seemed like a reasonable price to me.
Where are we going and why am I in this hand basket?

I prefer Mossberg shotguns, love 'em. Though I just recently went the other way and bought a Remington

Mine always goes BANG when I need it. As long I remember to turn of the safety ...

Fine weapon.
