Any Hi-Powers still around?

Post by Waldo1 » Tue Apr 17, 2018 8:20 pm

I have owned a couple, sold/traded them and always regretted it. I can't seem to find any for sale anywhere anymore? I'm looking for a good shooter, not a collector's piece- Izzy, Argy, Belgian made-Portugal assembled, etc. Is anyone selling these anymore or have they all dried up?

I’ve seen a few at gun shows, you might also try making regular rounds at your local pawn shops and gun stores.
I was gifted one about a decade ago by an uncle. It’s my primary home defense arm.

As soon as it was announced that Hi Powers were no longer being made they got grabbed yp at stupid crazy prices. New, Used it didn't matter.

I was at the range last week a guy offered me $500 for my Charles Daly clone. I thought he as nuts offering to pay that much.
One just went for $850 on Gun Broker.

The FN's and others like it are going for over $1000.

Wait the craziness out. It will pass.

Ooooooph!!! (kicked in the nuts sound) Yeah, I'm just looking for a pistol, not an investment opportunity. I think I'll start looking for another CZ75 instead. Thank you though, for crushing my dreams with your evil reality [smilie=011.gif].

You still see FEG's around for a reasonable price.

Even Jeff Cooper thought CZs were an excellent choice.
And he was a die hard John Browning fan.
Hard to beat the CZ SA-DA action and wonderful ergonomic shape.

Wait, Browning stopped making them, too?

Well several years ago (7?) I bought a Browing NIB and just threw it the safe. I guess it might be worth something.

Tector, was the box gray plastic? Mine was made in the late 60’s and that’s the box it came with.

This was new manufacture, not old stock. I think the box is gray, but it is up in the attic. Will send the old lady up there over the weekend.

STORED IN THE ATTIC?!?!?!?
It's ruined now. I'll take it off your hands and dispose of it for you, you know to avoid YOUR embarrassment.

The box is in the attic. The gun is in the safe with its friends, resting comfortably. But it appreciates your concern for its wellbeing!

I think I've seen some FEGs at Aim Surplus for less than $400 a few times. There have also been a few Israeli ones pop up on some of the surplus websites for sub $400 too.
