Iver Johnson 1911A1 .45ACP

Post by GunnyHiway » Tue May 02, 2017 7:21 pm

I recently procured an Iver Johnson 1911A1 .45ACP in like new condition. I had reservations about it but I took advantage of an offer I could not refuse.

I took it apart and cleaned it up a bit, I saw a little grease on the inside and it was lightly oiled on moving internals parts. After I cleaned it up I reassembled her and took off to the range. The mag that came with it was faulty so I tossed t and used 2 other USGI mags of known quality.

With S&B standard 230 gr. FMJ brass cased ammo, it had zero FTF,FTEs or any other FT fill in the blanks. The trigger pull is better IMO than any Colt or RIA I have owned and equal to or better than a high dollar Kimber a friends has let me shoot a few times.

The sights do not seem adjustable on either end but that did not affect its accuracy one bit. Nice walnut grips that I am changing them out to USGI plastic/nylon ones.

1911A1s made in the Phillipines and sold thru I.Js facility in Rockledge Florida. The Iver Johnson name is not the same company from years ago, new owners, new items for sale, etc.

Aren't all Philippine 1911 pistols made by just one factory and sold under various names?

I found out there are three different ones. I don't remember what or how I googled it but it showed 3 columns with each mfg at the top and whos company was in each column.

I will look for it and post my results.

Some so-called off brands are putting out some pretty good product. I bought an Auto Ordnance 1911, the new series put out by Kahr. It's darn nice. It looks like something right out of 1943 but, inside it's a series 80. I really like it. With that and the Ruger stainless I got recently for the specific purpose of carrying on my boat, I have been entertaining the possibility of selling my Kimber Royal.
