Vortex Viper scope question

Post by Shueter612 » Thu Oct 05, 2017 12:18 pm

I am new to the long range rifle game, but recently bought a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 creedmoor with the intention of building a gun to get into the sport. After hours of research I had my heart set on a Vortex Viper PST 5-25x50(MOA), however, the wait time for purchasing one through Experticiy(LEO discount) is 3-5 months, and according to Vortex thats a generous estimate. My question is this, do I save a couple hundred and buy a first generation Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50, or be patient(not a virtue I possess), and wait for the Gen II to be delivered.

I intend to have the scope and accessories mounted by a gunsmith, then take some of the FFT classes in Okeechobee to get familiar with the rifle and optic. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Long range shooting is something I have wanted to get into for some time, and I'm looking forward to putting a lot of rounds through this rifle.

Vortex Razor HD 3-18x50 https://imgur.com/gallery/odVMA

We have the Vortex Razor HD on our Aero M5 308......absolutely love it

You may think you need more scope but most of the time you don't
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

Thanks John, I did more research and have re-decided on going that route.

The math is MUCH EASIER.

You may also want to look into local PRS events. Several of my clients are regular shooters, a good group of guys who like to share knowledge (after the scores have been tallied ;) ).

If you can make it to Okeechobee then Hollywood Tactical isn't much farther.

What sport are you trying to get in to?

You may want to look at a Sightron 10-50X60 or a Nightforce 15-55X52 or a March 8-80X56. Those are quality long range scopes for precision shooting.

I'm not opposed to those scopes/brands, however, Vortex gives killer discounts to first responders that makes it hard to say no. I'll definitely look into them though. Thanks for the suggestion.
