9mm PSA Pistol upper, PSA pistol lower w/mag block, Mag Fails

Post by tomcat522 » Fri Oct 28, 2016 4:46 am

PSA 9mm 10.5 inch barreled upper with PSA pistol lower fitted with PSA 9mm mag block - got three 9mm colt mag by palmetto and loaded 1. with Blazer Brass. 2. with LAX generic 9mm reloads (which, by the way, would not feed well in my G17), and 3. with Win Target rounds.

1. & 3. failed every 3ed or 4th round, the 2. loaded with LAX generic no-name ran like grease thru a goose! _:
Reloaded various combinations and the number 2. mag worked flawless with ANY ammo i loaded!

so, question is im assuming mag 1 & 3 have issues, and mag 2. is just right! to my untrained eye, all three mags are the same - how to compare and adjust??

are you running the PSA 9mm bolt ??

I got one used from Cubastang, who had nothing but problems with it and I tried it on a 9mm upper and still couldn't get it to run correctly, so I shelled out $ 150 for a colt 9mm SMG bolt and it ran like a raped ape yesterday

thinking its the bolt and not the mags, but if you mark the mags 1, 2 & 3 and swap ammo between all of them you can eliminate if its a mag or bolt issue ?

as it was a complete PSA 9mm upper, which included a BCG & CH.

("PSA 10.5" 9mm SQR 7" Upper with BCG and Charging Handle...")

so am assuming a suitable 9mm bolt.

anyway, i did number the mags 1,2,3 so am returning to the range this week with a stack of various 9mm rounds, hope to confirm mag problem.
one thing i have found over the years is that mags (if a mag problem) that fail are problems and best rid of them, fixing has never worked reliably for me.

not sure where you're located but I have some of the converted Uzi mags that work on the colt pattern if you wanna swap a few out

Long story short - the 9mm mag well insert is a bit to thick and the mag catch will wiggle out after 2 rounds (any ammo) using mag #1 or #3 - (#2 works fine - does not pop out). Bought 2 more SMG 9mm mags (on sale again) at PSA - numbered them #4 & #5 - they work perfectly!
So, bottom line is (for whatever reason) #1 & #3 just dont hold the mag catch after firing 1 or 2 rounds - the rest #2,4,5 run great (any ammo).

Have written to PSA customer support - good luck with that - hopping for credit or return & swap - they usually take a few weeks to even reply.
