Code red polymer lower

Post by screenerglenn » Sat Jul 30, 2016 5:36 pm

I was given two of these lowers (free). I'm not too keen on polymer so I thought maybe I'll try a dedicated .22 build. The fire group pins leftover from other builds are not snug. Is there a larger pin required for these ? If so, what size ?

It looks like some Colts had a larger pin. This is off of the Midway website.

AR-15 Hammer and Trigger Pin Dimensions:
•Some Colt® AR type rifles have been manufactured with hammer and trigger pins and holes which are approximately .176" in diameter. These are referred to as "large pin" Colts. This was done to eliminate the chances of someone putting M16 fire control parts into an AR receiver. This is not found in all Colt models, just some.

So it looks like you will have to measure the pin hole diameter to be sure. Maybe someone else has a better answer?

If the pin hole isn't the larger Colt stlye, about your only option short of selling them on Armslist lol, maybe KNS pins.

How loose are we talking? I've had good experience with other polymer lowers before. If you decide to sell them, let me know what you're asking.

I managed to get a lower parts kit installed, but the lower had many issues. Particularly the selector switch hole. It was about 1/32" too low. More dremmel work than I would prefer

Ok, so were you able to get it working?

Could you post some pics of it?

it's working just fine . I didn't think to take pics before assembly. Widened the selector holes a bit and deepened the inside base with the dremmel towards the rear to lower the trigger unit by about 1/32" or less
